Hey groupings are a means of classifying minerals by the anion groups that they contain (these are groups such as sulfates, carbonates, phosphates, sulfides, etc.) The listing by Hey groups allows one to list the minerals in a group and see which minerals are related to them. This classification is named for the original author of "Hey's Mineral Index" and the third edition was written by A. M. Clark in 1993.
