I would delete the instruction to use only the reference that you are actually using when adding species to a locality. That practice may be fine for the amateur users; however, the professional users would benefit from a more complete reference listing provided at once, rather than requiring research.

You could probably add additional references, but the one you used should be the first one listed. If there are questions about whether a listing is correct, you really need to be able to easily determine the reference that was used (there are too many errors floating around in the published literature). I tend to like to check a reference before I cite it as a source, otherwise you are relying on the subsequent author to get it correct. I also wanted to avoid the temptation to omit the reference that a person really used for the "better" reference that was cited. --David Von Bargen 10:53, 14 May 2005 (BST)
